Resumen

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between stakeholders’ participation in glass-bottle reverse logistics and supply-chain performance at SBC Tanzania Limited in Arusha. A descriptive research design was adopted, using questionnaires and interviews with 152 participants comprising consumers, retailers, distributors, and company staff. Stratified random sampling was applied for quantitative data collection and purposive sampling for qualitative interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics through IBM SPSS 27, while qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. The findings revealed a strong positive correlation between stakeholder participation and supply-chain performance (r = 0.784, p < 0.01). Despite this, 68.1% of respondents reported that SBC Tanzania primarily reuses rather than recycles bottles, leading to customer dissatisfaction regarding packaging quality. Additionally, 65.9% expressed dissatisfaction with the current financial incentives for bottle returns. The study concludes that improving transparency, revising incentive structures, and strengthening communication can enhance stakeholder engagement and supply-chain sustainability. The findings contribute to the growing body of literature on circular-economy practices in developing economies by contextualizing stakeholder theory within reverse-logistics operations.
